I'm making some experiences with particles in Unity, and I would like to make a 3D basic wall so I could destroy it in game (and then apply the smoke particles, etc). I can apply materials to it, but when it's destroyed do I need to change the materials and the mesh? I don't know where to start. More info See in Glossary of all Game Objects which are marked as Navigation Static, and then processes them to create a navigation mesh The main graphics primitive of Unity. Meshes make up a large part of your 3D worlds. Unity supports triangulated or Quadrangulated polygon meshes. Nurbs, Nurms, Subdiv surfaces must be converted to polygons.
A destructible mesh, as the name suggests and different from a simple destroy object node, is a mesh that can be divided into smaller pieces and each piece is treated by the engine on its own. This new function, added on the new version of unreal engine, allows the developers to convert any simple mesh into a destructible one. The severed terrain would still be destructible but now represented by a dynamic(non-static) Box2D body with the triangles attached as shapes. I had the design worked out but lost interest once I started digging into the boost documentation. I "plan" to revisit the idea when I make a scorched earth/Worms game someday. Our terrain blocks are usually rendered as a single mesh, but as soon as they get destroyed by a projectile or a game character we quickly hide it and start rendering the individual pre-sliced meshes. This allows us to have many destructible blocks in the scene, while limiting the amount of draw calls. The example is sculpting with mouse clicks on a sphere and it works kinda like ray casting at the object, getting the point that hits the mesh, getting all of the vertices that are within a certain distance of that point and then raising them. It's cool for how simple it is to deform meshes in unity. Remove all the box colliders on the fragments, and replace them with mesh colliders. Check each mesh collider and make sure each has the correct mesh applied (that is, barrel_fragment_01 needs the barrel_fragment_01 mesh, and so on). Once that is done, set all mesh colliders to convex. (A non-convex mesh collider can't collide with other non ...
